Sometimes all the different ingredients found at Chinese supermarkets can be a bit overwhelming. We've seen these sweet and sour pickled mustard greens in the past but only recently had a chance to cook them up. This recipe is my grandmother's and is simple stir fry with beef and onions. The pickles are crunchy even when cooked and have a nice sweetness that goes great with the beef.
Ingredients (Serves 4):
- 1lb lean beef sliced thinly
- 1 cups pickled cabbage, sliced thinly
- 1 onion, sliced thinly
- 2 tbsp ginger, chopped finely
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
Method:
1. Marinate the sliced beef with the soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and cornstarch overnight
2. In a hot pan, fry the beef until brown on both sides and set aside
3. In the same pan, add some oil and fry the garlic and ginger until aromatic. Add the onions and pickled cabbage and fry till slightly soft
4. Add the beef back to the pan with the oyster sauce and cook for another couple of minutes to combine all the flavours
5. Serve over steamed rice
Enjoy!
