A few months ago, we were cruising down 16th avenue looking for something to eat that was equally fast and tasty as our go-to Pho Kim. We decided to try Holy Smoke BBQ and on this day, we chose a few good looking meaty items.
When you walk into Holy Smoke BBQ, you order at the counter, pay for your meal and you have the option to sit at the counter or do take-out. The "Manwich" contains pulled pork and beef brisket, topped with coleslaw and a pickle. The meat was nice and smokey, while still maintaining it's moisture. The pickles and tangy coleslaw added good crunchy texture. For every order, you get to select one sauce to go with your meal. The apple BBQ sauce complimented the smokey pulled pork sandwich.
The pork ribs are sold individually for $1 a rib. The ribs were slightly dry but still very tasty. We suspect the dryness was because they had cooled down to room temperature (we opted to do takeout). If they had been warmed up, the fats would have melted and made it more tender and moist. Tastiness was enhanced by the Jack Daniels whisky BBQ sauce. As a side, the cornbread was moist and sweet, almost too sweet. It definitely could have passed as a dessert cake. However, I am no cornbread expert and don't know how sweet "authentic" cornbread (if there is such a thing) should be.
If you have a craving for smoked meats and BBQ sauce that needs to satisfied in under 5 minutes, Holy Smoke BBQ is the place to be.
